New Car

July 9th, 2007 · No Comments

Yesterday we went looking at new/upgraded car options..

I know I know, such a romantic activity for chrisitnes birthday, but we had been talking about it, and she wanted to test drive something to see if it suited. so, off to the local subaru dealer we headed and she drove a 2.5 auto subaru outback,. it was a second hand one they had in the yard (hall) but gave her the idea of its performance, size and drive ability, also gave her a chance to test out the auto , and form an opinion of this gearBox.. the outcome, she likes it, its a nice car thats nice/easy to drive, big, but not HUGE and not hard to manage, the auto 2.5 felt a bit gutless (my wrx is not a fair comparrison) and we didnt drive the manual, but we sat in the 3l premium, and then a liberty premium wagon (uses the same inards) and we liked the leather, sunroof and other features the premium model gave (it has 743 airbags and other safety/performance features over the normal model).

I really like the 2.5i manual premium model. now to justify/see if this really is what we should consider?

this is the car. Its got loads of room, big enough for a couple of kids and Bits into the future. awd, has a bit of ground clereance, enough to get down dirt roads and not have to worry about every little bump (like I have to do in the wrx), and should be more than enough for our trek around austalia, or even a couple of weeks in tassie, let alone a weekend to the glow worm caves at newnes, or another attack to hill end. even to the bird wetland/conservation area thats 150km off the highway in outback nsw.

it also runs on normal unleaded, not the 98ron octane stuff the wrx needs. and has a 10l bigger petrol tank, whic is another 100+km of traveling distance..

other options include the forrester wagon, and even the new camry’s. while not as offroad-able, not as capable driving into national parks, its cheaper, and of similar performance and specification.

But its a bit more Truck like, and has a lot less storage. it might be cheaper, but im not sure it fits all the “task” required into the future.

This is the Camry, they are 28-29$k + orc and all that stuff. a more fancy version is 34-36k. but its a city car, and I like going away for weekends, i want to do this big trip around OZ< i want to get out and explore the state/this corner of the world, and in the wrx, its too uncomfortable, in the forrester, it might be too squishy, i keep coming back to the outback?

what to do?  🙂
