Riding to Melbourne – for the wedding.

Riding to Melbourne

(take #2 – damm LJ!)

I was riding the excercise bike the other morning, and I got to thinking. its just under 90 days to go to this wedding of mine, I'm doing around 10-15km a day,, Melbourne's only 900ish km away, why don't I make it a “ride to the wedding” styled personal challenge.. I know, very cheesy, but everyone needs a challenge, hopefully this will help motivate and keep me going.

So I went looking on www.whereis.com.au and found entered the start and end locations, and it tells me, that, using the fastest option (including tolls) its 884.3km from my home to the gardens, and in a car it should take around 9hr, 17mins.

thus, I'm going to keep track, of my progress to Melbourne, via a exercise bike, firmly planted in the middle of the gym at my unit in Sydney..

Ill be following the exact path the website tells me.. and at work I have a fancy mapping program we use for “network” stuff that can track the km's..

So, the trek so far!

Day 0 – New years Day! nothing 🙂
Day 1 – (2/1) 12.7km the airport tunnel and M5 east tunnel!!
Day 2 – (3/1) 13km boring M5
Day 3 – (4/1) 13.2km (only 845.4km to go!) almost in Campbelltown (better lock the doors)

I'm spending around 35 mins on the bike a day, 2 mins warm up, 28 mins of the cardio program, and a 5min cool down. I discovered it has more entries on the setup, and my target weight loss heart rate is 124. this equals a pace that's a little slow for the challenge. but I'm going to have to stick with it, hopefully as I increase my use to it, the HR will come down and the speed will increase (it tries to keep your HR at the target, and adjusts the resistance accordingly)..

as mentioned the other day. the aim is 90kg, but the reality is under 100 (2 digits)..

86 days to the wedding. if I did 10km a day for the rest of the time, ill be 14km over the distance. though I have trips away, work and other things getting in the way, 13km a day has be nearly 300km over. and my daily distance is going to increase. so I'm sure I can do it, I guess ill have to increase the gym visits if I start falling behind.
